What does CIP mean?
Framework Programme for Competitiveness and Innovations (CIP) is directed toward stimulation of competitiveness of European enterprises. With small and medium enterprises (SMEs) as its main target group, the Programme will support innovative activities (including eco-innovations), ensure better approach to finances and provide support services to businesses in the regions. It will encourage better acceptance and use of information and communication technologies (ICT), as well as support development of information society. Also, it will promote increased need for renewable energies and efficiency of energy. The Programme has been operative from 2007 to 2013.

CIP has been divided into three operative programmes:

1. Entrepreneurship and Innovations Programme (EIP)
•    Better approach of SMEs to finances through joint capital investments and instruments of credit guarantees
•    Support services to business and innovations provided through regional centres network
•    Promotion of entrepreneurship and innovations
•    Support to eco-innovations
•    Support to creation of policy that stimulates entrepreneurship and innovations

2. Information and Communication Technologies Policy Support Programme (ICT PSP)
•    Developing unified European information space
•    Strengthening the market within Europe for ICT, as well as products and services based on ICT
•    Stimulating the innovations through wider adoption of ICT and investing in ICT
•    Developing the society in which the information are included and services are more efficient and effective in the areas of public interest
•    Improving the quality of life

3. Intelligent European Energy (IEE)
•    Strengthening the efficiency of energy and rational use of energy sources
•    Promoting new and renewable energy sources and different types of energy 
•    Promoting the efficiency of energy and new energy sources during transportation
